Rachael Kim Performs Conus

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

This Pasadena Community Orchestra concert, conducted by Bethany Pflueger, showcases violinist Rachael Kim, winner of the 2025–2026 Young Artist Competition Open Division, in Julius Conus’s Romantic Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 1. Framing Kim’s featured performance is a vibrant program of orchestral works full of dance, color, and character: Mozart’s sparkling Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Florence Price’s three-movement Dances in the Canebrakes, Shostakovich’s beloved Waltz No. 2, and Arturo Márquez’s fiery Conga del Fuego Nuevo. Together, the program moves from classical elegance to American lyricism, sweeping Romantic virtuosity, and exuberant Latin rhythm.
