ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
This program presents a vibrant mix of orchestral and operatic favorites, from Prokofiev’s energetic March to the expressive lyricism of Massenet’s Méditation. Highlights include selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Bernstein’s West Side Story, featuring guest vocalists Roberto Perlas Gomez, baritone, and Christina Kushnick and Megan Lindsey McDonald, sopranos. Maria Newman’s Le Livre d’Esther offers a contemporary contrast with two evocative movements, while Saint-Saëns, Puccini, Wagner, and Ponchielli round out the program with dramatic and colorful works from the stage. Grainger’s Molly on the Shore is led by guest conductor Michael Armstrong, adding a distinctive touch to an already dynamic and engaging performance.
